Warmest Wishes and Gratitude to You & Yours

CEO Message

It’s hard to believe another year is coming to a close. By now, the passage of time shouldn’t take any of us by surprise, yet I am always surprised by the faithful cycle of years rapidly approaching and swiftly ending. With another year behind us, we reminisce on our experiences and accomplishments, and with a grateful heart look forward to new milestones and the anticipation of exciting change.

Earlier this week, I was reminded of the rapid and precious character of time by a reflection from author Annie Dillard: “How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.” Each day, individually, can be spent in thousands of different ways – but here at LAUP all of our days, woven together, form the tapestry of our lives. And I’m encouraged because our staff, our Board, and our partners and stakeholders each dedicate their days to creating a better tomorrow for our young children, and we continue to seize opportunities to do even more.

In reflecting upon this past year, I couldn’t be more proud of our accomplishments. Our days have been spent advocating for policies that keep our young children first, providing empowerment to parents and caregivers through our family engagement workshops, and establishing partnerships with schools as we provide supports for their programs and business operations. These are just some of the commitments we’ve made over the past year, and this is only the beginning.

As we enter 2017 with grateful hearts and a spirit of zest, I ask you to consider this: It is the combination of each and every one of your special purposes that creates a lifetime of opportunity for our young learners. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with each of you who stand up for our children; working together to advance LAUP’s mission, and to support our commitment to improving the lives of young children and their families in Los Angeles and beyond.
