The Angle, December 2017 – CEO Message

It has been a momentous and wonderful year. Just last week—alongside our policy team, and program field staff, I had the privilege of visiting a preschool site in Duarte. The place was dancing with holiday spirit. Like a flurry of snowflakes—each unique in their own right—the children joyfully whirled around, soaking in the sights and sounds of their dramatic play areas, technology centers, craft tables, and eventually making their way to the center carpet, where they engaged in a story—read aloud by one of our state policy-makers, Senator Portantino. It is moments like these I am reminded of why we do what we do; and, during this time of year, it really puts into perspective what this season, and this year, is all about.

Children are an incredible gift, and everything you do is a gift to them. I want to encourage each one of you to spend time with the children in your lives. Whether you’re a parent, political leader, teacher or Child360 staff – the love and presence you provide to these children are the best gifts you can give. Not only is it fulfilling to see their bright eyes and happiness, but to be a part of these moments our children are experiencing for the first time. It is these moments—where you give your time, support, and love—that turn into memories.

I’m excited to share, that for the first time in Child360 history, we’ve been selected to administer a study for Heluna-Women, Infants, and Children (Heluna-WIC) and WIC’s literacy program called: Little by Little. Little by Little builds on the existing WIC infrastructure, reaching and supporting families in their journey to foster a culture of learning and literacy at home. Our Research & Evaluation team will be collecting data in order to assess the current program, and validate their direction as they continue to impact more children and families in their dedication to enhance school readiness! Programs like these provide the gift of reading and literacy to our children, and we are proud to be a part of this work.

The holidays are historically referred to as, “The most wonderful time of the year.” I think the holidays are referred to as such because it is during this time of year we are empowered to reflect with grateful hearts, and look forward to the successful year to come.

As 2017 comes to a close, I want to thank our partners, law makers, teachers, families, and Child360 staff. All of these incredible first moments, and memories our children are experiencing, are the result of the work that you put in each and every day. It really touches me, and I am incredibly grateful for each and every one of you!

Happy Holidays!
