The teachings of Mister Rogers are at the core of Child360’s work, and foundational to quality early learning. He taught us about kindness, acceptance, helping others, gratitude, and trust – core values shared by Child360 and reflective of the important work of thousands of early educators across LA County!
To reinforce his enduring lessons, and celebrate all of YOU, who truly embody the spirit of Mister Rogers, Child360 hosted “Good Neighbor Week”, Nov 18 – 22, coinciding with the release of Sony Pictures’ A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.
The week-long celebration engaged providers on social media platforms, where we shared curriculum ideas each day on how to integrate his lessons into the classroom; we even kicked-off the week with an in-house produced Mister Rogers video, where we interviewed Child360 staff and our Early Head Start Providers to reflect on what kindness and being a good neighbor means to them. You can watch the video here! The week was punctuated with a private screening at Sony Pictures, where Child360 providers and staff gathered in their red sweaters to enjoy the highly anticipated film.
#GoodNeighborWeek garnered national attention, making national News on CNN, and a “thank you” from Maria Shriver on Twitter. Providers and staff proudly wore red sweaters throughout the week, and shared classroom photos of what “being a good neighbor” looked like in action.
It was a momentous and successful week, and we are grateful that we live in a time where young children, the topic of kindness, and social emotional development are at the forefront of conversation. Thank you for being the Mister Rogers of today, helping young children navigate big feelings, learn about themselves, and love others in the process. For all the ways you make it a beautiful day in our neighborhood, we continue to celebrate you each and every day.
If you aren’t already, be sure to follow and engage with us on social media to participate in more fun events like this!
